Honey versus maple syrup, agave and stevia during raw days of the RN-Cleanse

Q: Can I have honey during the raw days of the RN Cleanse?

A: Past cleansers and hardcore cleansers I’d say no. For first timers. Absolutely you can use honey. But try to limit to once a day.

Use organic honey or local honey over maple syrup.
Maple syrup contains more sucrose than fructose. This is ok on a maple syrup detox but RN-Cleanse is very different to that particular cleanse.

Although maple syrup is sap straight from a tree; therefore natural; it is high in sucrose.

We want to limit sucrose when eating other fibre rich foods as this can cause inflammation and digestive problems. Cane sugar is also high in sucrose and so should be avoided for the first raw three days.

Agave syrup is a nice replacement for maple syrup and cane sugar.
If you do have maple syrup or cane sugar please have it with fruits an no other fibre or starches.
Sweeteners are processed and often contain chemicals. Please don’t use. With the exception of stevia. However sometimes stevia extract can contain maltodextrin, a food additive derived from cornstarch that may contain MSG. Or it may be in a carrier of glycerine if it is a liquid extract. Just be sure that you have the dried leaf version. Usually as a powder.
