Repost from Homeopath Kelly-Anne Davey
I’ve seen many young children this week entering hospitals with concerning phlegmy coughs, and I felt compelled to share some remedies that might help.
The remedy for a wet (productive) cough varies depending on its characteristics, timing, and accompanying symptoms. Here are some options that may provide comfort for those struggling with wet coughs:
1. Antimonium tartaricum
Key traits: Rattling, loose cough with difficulty expectorating mucus.
Symptoms: The patient may feel weak and drowsy, and the cough can worsen when lying down; it often sounds as if the chest is full of mucus.
Good for: Elderly or very young patients who have a weak cough reflex.
2. Hepar sulphuris calcareum
Key traits: Wet cough with thick yellow mucus, sensitivity to cold air.
Symptoms: The person may feel irritable and seek warmth, with a cough that worsens due to cold drafts.
Good for: Coughs that develop after exposure to cold or during the early stages of an infection.
3. Pulsatilla
Key traits: Wet cough with green or yellowish mucus, often occurring in the morning.
Symptoms: The individual may feel mild, emotional, or clingy; symptoms can worsen in a warm room and at night, but improve in open air.
Good for: Children or sensitive adults who may need extra care.
4. Kali bichromicum
Key traits: Thick, stringy, sticky mucus that is difficult to expel.
Symptoms: The cough can worsen in the morning and after eating, often accompanied by sinus issues.
Good for: Those dealing with post-nasal drip and stubborn phlegm.
5. Phosphorus
Key traits: Cough that produces bloody or rusty-colored sputum, with hoarseness and chest pain.
Symptoms: The person may feel anxious and chilly but crave cold drinks; symptoms often worsen in the evening.
Good for: Individuals showing symptoms similar to bronchitis or pneumonia.
Dosage (General Guideline):
6C or 30C potency, taken 2–3 times per day.
It’s important to reduce the frequency as symptoms improve. If there is no improvement after a few days, it may be wise to reassess the remedy choice. Remember, you’re not alone in this, and finding the right remedy can make a difference.
